ReNEW's Creating Student Grades in a Mastery System

Context

Student grades are determined primarily by the score they receive on the quiz for each learning objective and mastery assessment.

Early on, under a different grading system, students were rushing too quickly through standards to try to move faster through IXL. Moving too fast resulted in poor demonstrations of mastery. A new system was created that emphasized standards mastery through quizzes, and the ability to improve their grade through IXL. Students are also able to take multiple assessments from the same standard to bring their grade up.
