In order to successfully scale blended and personalized learning, we need to build the capacity of those doing this critical work. Leaders and educators are the most effective agents for pushing blended and personalized learning at scale. In order to support them in this work, we need to be strategic with not only our approach to training but our approach to professional learning as a whole.

Here are four main components needed to “train your people” in a rigorous, personalized, and authentic fashion:

Reflect & Assess

Once you have identified the competencies educators need to master to be successful within your model, the next step is to find out where each educator is at by formally and informally empowering them to:

  • Reflect and assess themselves based on defined metrics for each competency

  • Identify areas of strength and gaps in their mastery

This gives those who participate in the professional learning process the opportunity to reflect and honestly assess their own strengths and weakness, ensuring buy-in and a more learner-centered approach.
