Overview
Competency-based learning (also known as competency-based education) represents a significant departure from the "everyone moves at the same pace, and seat time equals knowledge” approach that dominates our nation’s approach to learning. Given the significance of this change, education leaders and policy makers should engage thoughtfully with all key stakeholders regarding the foundational elements and key benefits of this shift.
The Foundation for Excellence in Education's state policy communications toolkit for competency-based education includes recommendations on how to most effectively communicate with parents and other stakeholder groups about the change. The toolkit also offers a host of tools that can be used in these communications efforts.
