Clamshell

Attention grabber and time saver

Overview

Clamshell, having students close their laptops to 45 degrees like a clamshell, is an attention getting strategy that prevents students from being distracted, allows the teacher to easily observe participation, and saves time since students will not need to log back in when transitioning back to work.

Pairing this strategy with a hand signal is an effective way to grab the attention of students wearing headphones because it is non-verbal, and easy for everyone see.
