Communicate the Plan

Ensuring all students know what to do, when to do it, and how

Overview

When working with students in-person, remote, and within a hybrid and/or simultaneous learning environment, it is important that they know what to do, when to do it, and how so they can engage meaningfully wherever they are physically. By communicating the plan often and in a clear and consistent way, students are better able to access the content, engage in their learning, and seek support when needed no matter where they are learning. With students having to move back and forth between remote and in-person learning, it is even more vital to build strong structures, routines, and procedures around the daily plan so students don’t lose learning time searching for what to do or where to be.

To help support this need, Dallas ISD put together specific guidance for educators on how to share daily agendas virtually so that students know where to be and what to do while participating in simultaneous learning. Some specific things that were noted to consider include:

  • How and where are you sharing information daily with students (e.g., agenda, objective, etc.)?

  • What does your daily schedule look like?

  • How are you defining your zones (a.k.a virtual rotations)?

  • How do students know what they should be doing in each zone?

  • What does a student-facing version of the daily plan look like? Teacher-facing version?
