Data Walls

Open sharing of Learner progress to help Learners identify support and partnership opportunities

Context

Lindsay High School Learners see their progress on a class chart, as well as the progress of other Learners in the class. By being able to see where each Learner is, they know who they can go to for help or support, as well as who they might be able to work with as a partner or in a group. Open data allows for greater autonomy as Learners are often able to choose their own support groups based on the data, as opposed to the Facilitator selecting groups.

As shown by this example, data walls can be extremely helpful when they provide a way for students to more effectively collaborate and seek help, but it is important to flag that students may feel more competitive than cooperative if you post data such as test scores or reading levels.
