Overview
Know-Wonder-Learn (KWL) Charts help educators identify prior student knowledge, build in opportunities for inquiry, and support student learning while measuring mastery and comprehension. These charts can be used to begin a unit, as a reading guide, or as a way to support language acquisition. KWL Charts provide students who are learning English (EL) a way to practice writing using content-based vocabulary while also identifying areas of current understanding. Offering opportunities to build language skills while also exploring the content at hand is an important piece of effectively supporting EL students.
