Overview
At Liberty Public Schools, located in suburban Missouri, if a content team decides to focus on curating its own content instead of purchasing traditional content, the team spends the first year focused on building essential standards. During the second year, the district supports the content team to come together monthly, quarterly, and every semester to reflect and review units that have been produced and to make any updates they think are necessary to ensure relevance and rigor.
District administrators find that this allows teachers to constantly think about their practice and reflect on content and assess areas where they need additional support.
- School leaders use a couple of different tools to ground their conversations:
- Liberty’s Curriculum Alignment and Publication Checklist allows the team to think about some of the most important best practices offered and is intended to be used at the team level.
- When reviewing essential standards during this process (for rigor, relevance, and alignment), the team utilizes the Curriculum and OER Vetting Tool.
