Taking High School Drama Performance Online

Bringing a drama production to life safely during a pandemic

Overview

COVID-19 distancing requirements posed a challenge for the Cudahy High School's drama program. Students and teachers wondered how they could put on an authentically engaging show for their community.

"They just found ways to do the impossible things. The students, the staff, the families, everybody just working together, and it was really cool." - Dr. Tina Owen-Moore, Superintendent, School District of Cudahy

Approach

Teachers worked with students to choose a play that could be performed in under 15-minute increments and with a limited set of actors. Working from the play "Clue," the students rehearsed while wearing masks and social distancing, and then broke the performance up to film segments with students performing in clear face masks in limited groups. The performances were spliced together into one show and then broadcast for the Cudahy community (and beyond) on Broadway on Demand.
