Evolving Professional Development at Lovett

Changing professional development to focus on student engagement


Transitioning to blended and personalized learning, Lovett also needed to change the way it developed its professionals in the building. Previous professional development focused on how to raise student outcomes through instruction, while the goal of current professional development is to engage each student better in their own learning. Lovett worked with LEAP Innovations as it transitioned its professional development. LEAP provided them with a variety of workshops on foundational principles of blended and personalized learning, such as visioning, curriculum needs, schedules, learning science, and personalization practices. LEAP also provided monthly on-site coaching and observation during the transition. With support from LEAP, Lovett was able to develop a sustainable approach to personalized learning that meets the needs of their professionals and, by extension, their students.
