Reallocating resources to support professional development

Overview

After making the decision to replace current social studies and science curricula, Liberty Public Schools was able to repurpose the money saved to support high-quality Open Educational Resources (OER) across the district. The district distributed this funding to support successful implementation in the following ways:

  • Focused professional development to support specific curriculum: These expanded opportunities help teachers in specific subject areas learn how to create and curate OER.
  • Innovative models of training and support: Teachers can experience and learn about new classroom models, such as project-based learning, that become more feasible to implement given the flexibility of OER.

By allocating funds toward training, Liberty was able to more easily transition educators and motivate buy-in around the content creation and curation that is needed for high-quality instructional materials in more engaging learning models.
