Overview
Trailblazer Elementary is part of Colorado Springs School District 11 (D11), which enrolls approximately 30,000 students. D11 provides all of its schools with traditional district supports, but also has a Next Generation Learning Coordinator. The mere fact that this position exists shows a strong commitment by the district to supporting innovative schools. Some of the key areas of support this position has provided are in professional development, leadership coaching, communications, and change management. Even though this is a shared role across the district, having someone who can bring outside knowledge and additional capacity into this work has been an incredible boon for Trailblazer. The coordinator also creates a stronger connection with the district, creating clearer communication channels, and allowing the school to focus on improving student learning instead of worrying about the risks associated with change.
