Strategy: Ongoing Teacher Prep and Collaboration

Shared planning time and space to enable teacher collaboration

Context

Teachers prepare lessons independently and with their colleagues. There are common teacher prep times in the morning and afternoon, each lasting forty minutes. Given the open learning space, Roots has created a shared workspace off of the Grove that enables teachers to quickly collaborate informally as necessary. In addition to individual prep time, Roots has “Co-lab,” or structured collaboration time, after school three times a week. Teachers spend at least one of these sessions working with other teachers and data.
