Using Time and Resources Creatively to Support Professional Development

Innovative approaches for continuous professional development opportunities

Overview

Garnet Valley School District has allocated time and money to ensure its teachers have a comprehensive professional development experience that yields strong outcomes for students. To ensure engagement and effectiveness of the additional PD opportunities:

    • Teachers are provided substitutes when they are pulled out for professional development during the school day.
    • Two of five in-service days are facilitated and run by teachers and school administrators. Teachers and school administrators are asked to propose sessions they want to engage with and learn about.
  • School schedules and calendars are reworked to create spaces and times for teachers to meet before, during, and after school to collaborate.
